Spain is a superb source of good value, mature reds, but a Gran Reserva Rioja with now 10 years’ age is a top find. Made in a 5-star vintage, it’s from a leading family estate. We can’t say where – our buyer swore secrecy in return for a great price.
Combining concentrated, old bush vine (up to 70 years old) Monastrell (known to us as Mourvèdre or Mataro) plus a portion of strawberry-scented Tempranillo, it’s a lavish and layered wine that’s really hard to resist.

A regular Gold-medal winner (four last vintage), the 2023 Camino de Seda is smooth and brimming with big, spicy red fruit flavours. Ancient bush vines high in Jumilla produce this intensity, complemented by sweet spicy oak in this moreish red.
This power-packed, old-vine Garnacha is from a winery founded in 1939 in Navarra’s Baja Montaña region. Crafted from the intensely flavoured grapes of ancient, low-yielding vines grown high on a windswept plain, this is a dense, raspberry-rich red.
This is a young Rioja full of ripe Tempranillo charm from the award-winning Castillo Labastida. It's from Rioja's Alavesa region, where vineyards are small and high and the climate cool. The outcome is silky, bright fruit with tantalising freshness.
