Description Like the gorilla on the label, the Durif grape is equal parts big, dark and powerful. But don't be fooled, in the right hands, it can show a feminine side as well, especailly when blended to such great effect. The Cat, Bats & Dawn showcases South Australian Durif (70%), grown by Chris Byrne from the Gum and Roses vineyard near Loxton, and is rounded out by Barossa Valley Grenache (20%) and Shiraz (10%). Durif is well suited to warmer climates and thrives in the warmth of the Riverland. Matured in seasoned French and American oak barrels for added spice and depth. Alluring aromas of blackberries and black pepper leap from your glass, while the palate carries cherries, dark fruits and hints of chocolate.
The South Australian wine industry is responsible for more than half the production of all Australian wine. South Australia is a vast area with a great diversity in geography, allowing the state to produce a wide range of grape varieties from cool-climate Riesling in the Clare Valley to big, full-bodied Shiraz of the Barossa Valley. Some of Australia's most famous wines like Penfolds Grange, Jacob's Creek, Yalumba and Henschke Hill of Grace are produced here.
