Description “Love and wine can be a potent combination - just ask champion cricketer Ricky Ponting.” John Lehmann, The Australian. On Ricky’s first date with his future wife, Rianna, he bought a bottle of Leeuwin Estate’s Art series Chardonnay. They’ve now not only been married for 22 years but have set up a very serious wine business, working with winemaking veteran Ben Riggs and wine marketer David Krenich. And as Ricky says, the husband and wife “are in on every detail”. It’s no gimmick, the wine is seriously good. As Ben says: “I will never make anything less than a high-quality wine with the Ponting name on it – that’s a promise.” This fine, 93pt Pinot Noir featuring fruit from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley is a delight. "...delightfully appealing on the nose with ripe cherry, cured meat, clove and spicy oak aromas, leading to a beautifully weighted palate offering juicy fruit flavours with savoury nuances. Tannins are fine and polished, framing the wine elegantly. 93pts" (Sam Kim Wine Orbit).

Tasmania

Located at a more southerly latitude than the rest of Australian wine regions, Tasmania has a much cooler climate and the potential to make distinctly different cool-climate wines than in the rest of the country. It was actually one of Australia’s first wine regions to be planted to grapes. The area grows primarily Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc with splashes of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Sauvignon.
