Description James Halliday calls Kilikanoon “truly the best of the best” and named Kilikanoon his 2013 Winery of the Year. Robert Parker calls it “one of the most brilliantly run wineries in Australia ... the speciality is Shiraz”. For this masterful red, low yielding parcels of Shiraz were selected from vineyards based on concentration of flavours. Each parcel was subsequently vinified seperately using traditional winemaking techniques and aged for eighteen months in seasoned French oak casks. The result is a lush dark red colour with black tapenade, liquorice, forest berries, cinnamon and clove on the nose. Powerful red fruits give way to savoury charcuterie with hints of dark chocolate and a fine, velvety finish. It's "Dense and impressive. 95pts” as Ned Goodwin MW notes in the Halliday Wine Companion but there are lighter, brighter and more fragrant notes here too.
