Description In bumper vintages, some of the fruit from the Classico vineyards (Chianti's very best) is sold as standard Chianti in order to preserve the prestige of the most sought-after wines. Normally these ‘declassified’ wines get snapped up by local producers, but our buyer, Leo, is close to the winemaker, Franco Bernabei (who goes by the nickname Mister Sangiovese!), so was able to secure a very special parcel of the 2022 vintage. It's from a top tier winery (their neighbours' best wines sell for around $140 a bottle) in the heart of the Conca d’Oro (one of the finest areas of the Classico zone). It might say plain Chianti on the label, but the superior quality in the bottle is unmistakeable: all dark morello cherry, raspberry, plum and spice.
