Description Barón de Barbón wines have always stood out for their exceptional quality and value, a fact well-known to Rioja enthusiasts. This family cellar was founded in 1926 by José Murúa Villaverde, latest in a long line of Rioja winemakers. When José retired, the winery was sold. But in 1982, his son Julián Murúa Entrena took the bold step of repurchasing the bodega to continue the family tradition – and he has with great success. Today, Julián’s talented son, Javier, has joined him. Their vineyards are nestled in the premium, elevated slopes of Alavesa – Rioja’s most renowned subregion. Aged for two years in French and American oak barrels, this mellow Reserva has a rich layer of spicy complexity. Best paired with roast lamb, game pie or stew.
