Description
Welcome to Rioja, Spain's premier wine region and a chance to savour a trio of distinguished reds. This pack includes a red that has been our No.1 bestselling Rioja for decades. Barón de Barbón is made by Javier Murúa, whose father Julián owns Bodegas Muriel (a winery Julián's father established in 1926) in Rioja’s superior Alavesa. Castillo de Epifania is a pure, unoaked red Rioja from the winery of Juan Antonio Leza in the premium, elevated sub region of Rioja Alta. Only two villages in this high altitude enclave are permitted to add the name Rioja Alta to their labels. The extra altitude here freshens as well as ripens the Tempranillo grapes slowly to full flavoured perfection.
Perhaps star of the show is a gloriously silky Gran Reserva Rioja with now over 10 years’ of maturity under its belt. Made from old-vine Tempranillo in a 5-star vintage, at a leading family estate, which unfortunately must remain secret. Serve this with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, game dishes or exotic mushroom tapas. Savour 2 bottles of each at $17.99 a bottle and save $86.
Spain is a superb source of good value, mature reds, but a Gran Reserva Rioja with now 10 years’ age is a top find. Made in a 5-star vintage, it’s from a leading family estate. We can’t say where – our buyer swore secrecy in return for a great price.
This fine Gold, 95pt Tempranillo from Altos de Rioja, a multi award-winning winery in the heart of Spain’s famed Rioja, and talented winemaker Amaia Amestoy. Brimming with silky red fruit and delicate spice. A superb partner for lamb.
The Bujanda family don’t compromise on quality – and it shows in their huge haul of awards. This is their fresh, fruit-filled Joven Rioja, crafted entirely from Tempranillo. Expect layers of strawberry, raspberry and blackberry with a smooth finish.
