Description

Relish a Gold, 96pt Shiraz from the superlative Tahbilk. “Eric Purbrick set in place the winemaking traditions at Tahbilk from the 1930s onwards. He was all class; so, too, this shiraz named in his honour. 95pts" writes Jeni Port in The Halliday Wine Companion.

She goes on to say that it: "… Delivers aromas of ripe black fruits, plum, chocolate, earth and Aussie bush. The palate is mapped out in firm, fine tannins, nicely balanced with a light leathery, woodsy savouriness. As always, warm and complex. 95pts” (Jeni Port, The Halliday Wine Companion). For Sam Kim Wine Orbit it is: "Splendidly structured and refined with a great line and length. 96pts."

In 1920, wine lover Reg Purbrick was offered a glass of brandy from Château Tahbilk. Five years later, he purchased the property unseen! Reg's son Eric inherited his father's love of wine and, during the Great Depression, he gave up a law degree to decamp to Oz and take up the reins at Tahbilk. Three generations later, Hayley Purbrick is in charge of sustainability, while her father, Alistair, runs the estate. Since 1995, they've looked hard at sustainability and are just one of 8 wineries worldwide to be classified carbon neutral. Their 160 hectares of regenerated wetland and native vegetation are beneficial to the climate, as well as offering trails for all to enjoy.
