Description
Take home an impressively rich, smooth and easy-drinking "lush fruit-forward Shiraz from Victoria. 90pt" (WineFolio). This moreish all-rounder comes from the rising star Greenstone Ridge winery, with two vineyards, one in Heathcote, where this Shiraz, the other from the Yarra Valley – (Yarra legend Rob Dolan’s old ‘Sticks’ winery vineyard, and formerly called Yarra Ridge – first planted in 1983 by Louis Bialkower and his good friend James Halliday!). This site is the home of the winery itself, about an hour away from Melbourne.
The name Greenstone Ridge is derived from the ancient Cambrian soils in the Heathcote vineyard. These – the result of underwater volcanic activity – are some of the oldest in the country – and have a deep, iron-rich red colour mottled with lime green-tinted copper-infused basalt! We know that sounds a bit technical, but the soils and Mediterranean climate here are ideal for Shiraz. Greenstone Ridge Series Shiraz 2024 is a delight: "Dark plum, blackberry and boysenberry appear in the bouquet, mingling with dark chocolate, black pepper, mint and dried herb notes. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded and generous, with a spine that is a balance of soft tannin, toasty oak and integrated acidity. Savoury notes of peat, tapenade and truffle await as the wine opens up with a good swirl. 90pts" (David Walker Bell, WineFolio).
