For Sam Kim, Wine Orbit: "This is wonderfully composed and expressed, with cassis, tobacco, dried flower, fennel, and cedar notes on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate with supple texture and chalky tannins. Firmly structured and balanced, making it sturdy and flavoursome with a sustained, refined finish. 95pts"
"… the wine now at full aromatic expression. A vintage at its peak. 90+pts" (Gilbert & Gaillard Judges). "From the same historic 100-year-old vineyard originally established by Chateau Reynella (Wylpena meaning “place of bent fingers”). Super smooth and silky, this wine just glides across the palate. Soft, elegant and already showing a mature, resolved style with real quaffing appeal. Darker red berry fruits lead the way, joined by a hint of chocolate, spice and a gentle savoury lift. Fine tannins and a clean, lingering finish complete a Cabernet that feels effortless and thoroughly enjoyable right now. Fred and Sarah have done it again! Great work.96pts.” (Vino Masters Score: 96/100 ★★★★★ Smooth and elegant, a silky McLaren Vale Cabernet with real drinking pleasure.)
For Ray Jordan, WinePilot, this is" "95pts Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot): “A beautifully poised, elegant and most stylish cabernet from this excellent season. It comes off plantings from 1942. The aromas are quite pretty, with a mix of red and black fruits, a little lifted violet and dark chocolate with liqueur cherry. Then a palate that is seamlessly rich and textured, loaded with vibrant dark fruits, syrupy chocolate and cherry-like flavours. The oak is largely older, with just a spicy lift of 7% new oak, adding that final flourish. 95pts."
”Established in 1992, Dog Ridge is a McLaren Vale family run winery with some impressive old vines, and a range of beautifully-crafted boutique wines, including some very classy top-end releases.
The name DogRidge comes from an old-fashioned vine rootstock that, being dog lovers, captured the imagination of owners Dave and Jen Wright and Fred and Sarah Howard. Dave's the viticulturist, Fred the winemaker.
