Description

Gold, 97pt Cabernet Malbec from the exceptional Bleasdale and the year the winery turned 175 years old.

Invenium viam means “I shall find a way” (originally attributed to Hannibal) _ expressing determination, commitment and resilience– and a phrase perfect to use regarding Frank Potts. As the Bleasdale site tells us: “A man who joined the Navy at age nine, emigrated to Australia at age 21 with naught but a carpentry set to his name, who then proceeded to establish a vineyard and winery that would carry on his legacy for more than 170 years and counting.”

:“There will be celebrations aplenty in '25 as Bleasdale turns 175. What a milestone. A young Frank Potts started this now historic winery and it's a must visit for anyone interested in wine. The wine's as solid as ever. This flagship is made with remarkable deftness and a lightness of touch. It is a special red showcasing the regional strengths of the 81/19% cabernet sauvignon/malbec, which spent 15 months in French oak puncheons, 25% new, and ended up a barrel selection – the 'best of best’ – with extra time in bottle. It’s beautifully modulated; fruit to the fore – all cassis and loganberries – then the savoury elements come into play. Expect ironstone, warm spices, warm earth and cedarwood, too. But the palate ... wow! It’s an elegant style, tannins rather beautiful and shapely, silky throughout and finishes on a high with cleansing acidity. Bravo and happy birthday. 97pts.” (Jane Faulkner, The Halliday Wine Companion).

It has been an exceptional few years for Bleasdale, after winning two of the Australian wine industry's most coveted trophies, Paul Hotker being awarded the Halliday 'Winemaker of the Year 2018', and then the Winery of the Year crown in '24. "Not only one of the most historic wineries in Australia, with over 170 years of continuous winemaking by the direct descendants of the founding Potts family, but one of the leading quality producers in the land." (The Halliday Wine Companion).
