Description

Help yourself to a slice or two of this delicious and exceptionally moreish Trophy and Gold winning, 93pt McLaren Vale Shiraz made exclusively for you by the dynamic team behind Zonte's Footstep.

The humorously but attractively named Zonte’s Footstep Eat Cake Shiraz is made especially for you – and offers a characteristically appealing McLaren Vale Shiraz of simply great drinkability. It was not released long before it snapped up not only a Gold and 93pts but a Best Shiraz Trophy at the Critic’s Challenge International Wine and Spirits Competition 2026 as well.

The Zonte’s team (who won Best International Winery award at the same show) are well known for producing reds from various South Australian locations focussing on nailing regional and varietal characters perfectly – and they are hugely popular – both with customers and wine writers and show judges, as their ever-growing list of medals, trophies and high point scores illustrates. This fine Shiraz a case in point.

Critic’s Challenge Judges refer to its: “Feisty palate bright fruit, toasty flavours and long finish…” It presents a happy marriage of plum and bramble fruit, hints of chocolate and toasty oak and a little savoury complexity – licorice and mocha – making it a delicious drop to enjoy with food.

This is actually a superb barbecue wine – great with haloumi or a burger – or juicy steak of beef or lamb sizzling from the grill – and smooth enough to keep sipping once you’ve enjoyed your food.

What's with the name – Zonte's Footstep? Well, in 1893 a vineyard was planted with Zante currant to produce table grapes for the growing population of Adelaide. In the 1920s the vineyard was replanted with wine producing varieties of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon which were eventually used to make our first wine. Zonte's Footstep was set up in 1999. As a tribute to the journey of the grapes in the vineyard (and because you aren't legally allowed to mention a grape variety unless it's contained in the wine) it was decided to change the “A” to an “O” – ZONTE’S – sufficiently similar.
