We first met Sam at his family’s estate in New South Wales over three decades ago, and we’ve been following him and his wines ever since. He’s been the man behind many of our bestsellers, which along the way have racked up a remarkable number of medals. They deliver every time with lovely fruity intensity, originality and value.
In 2018, Sam set up on his own and we’re with him every step of the way. His Salvatore wines were his first two releases. This red, that won five Golds in its first two vintages, shows that Malbec can perform as well in Oz as it does in Argentina, then added a sizeable portion of Shiraz and, of course, his favourite variety, Durif.
He has nurtured partnerships with long standing grower friends so starts with top-quality fruit, then lets his winemaking skills come to play. This is aged for four months in French oak barrels, it's supple, smooth and packed with ripe fruit. Top choice with a hearty casserole.
