The Hilltops site in New South Wales, where Grove Estate stands was originally set up by Croatian settlers. It was re-established in 1989 by Brian and Suellen Mullany. Today, increasingly impressive cool-climate wines are made at Clonakilla by Clonakilla’s prestigious team of Tim Kirk and Bryan Martin. This 04pt Shiraz is one that really grows on you.
“A savoury, mid-weighted wine. Tactile tannins frame an initial spurt of reduction before boysenberry, dried seaweed and charcuterie notes skirt along peppery acid rails. This could do with a bit more middle... 90pts” (Halliday).
