Description
With its Gold, 95pts, rich black fruits and chocolatey spice, Di Prima shows that sunny Sicily can dazzle with the prized red grape of Australia and France's Rhône Valley.
A great discovery from one of the world's most exciting wine regions. As Tim Atkin MW says, Sicily is “one of the most exciting wine regions in Europe, blessed with abundant sunshine, varied terroirs and good indigenous grapes.” With investment, the island is able to make the most of these advantages.
This expressive Syrah comes from Davide di Prima, whose grandfather, Gaspare, planted the vines decades ago. The vineyards lie on hills overlooking Lago Arancio (Orange Tree Lake), a former river dammed in the 1950s. On rare occasions, when the water levels drop, the ruins of a Moorish temple emerge from the depths.
In the glass, expect deep colour, vibrant cherry, spice and hint of chocolate. This red wine is a superb match for grilled red meats and Sicilian dishes like aubergine caponata or cucuzza squash bake.
