Description Nightfall is an enterprise of Sam Brand and Peter Weinberg, to promote, as Campbell Mattinson notes: " One prime site in Coonawarra, boasting terra rossa soil over a base of limestone and growing 3 classic varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The aim – which thus far is unswervingly high – is to express this vineyard site, via the wines, with the same kind of clarity as the stars in the night sky above. It sounds like a stretch until you taste the wines that, at least so far, have proven revelatory." Ray Jordan Wine Pilot raves that it: "Speaks so much of Coonawarra with the red fruits and chalky limestone characters evident immediately... A stylish and expressive wine with plenty of cellaring time. 97pts." Sam Kim Wine Orbit is just as impressed: "... immensely seductive and stylish, showing cassis, cigar, clove and dried flower nuances, followed by a concentrated palate offering multi-layered mouthfeel combined with outstanding depth and richness. Wonderfully framed by beautifully melded tannins, leading to an impressively long, seamless finish. 96pts." A wine to showcase a pure representation of site, soli and stars, as the black label says. The label abstractly but rather beautifully depicts those stars in the nightsky.
