Description
A legendary, Garnacha-rich, BIG red from Spain’s sun-filled Cariñena. It’s a frequent Gold winner (this vintage no exception) and a long-time favourite of those who love lovers of big, smooth reds.
Cariñena is a hot, arid region of Spain where sun-loving grapes like Garnacha (same as Châteauneuf’s Grenache) achieve amazing ripeness. Ancient vines, hot summers and a lack of rain mean fewer grapes, which in turn means superb flavour intensity in every vintage that award-winning winemaker Javier Domeque produces. The name El Bombero name means ‘the fireman’, a nod to the intense heat these old vines experience.
There are no fancy châteaux around Cariñena, but, as Decanter magazine notes, that doesn’t stop it from being home to some of the best-value reds in the world.
El Bombero is great on its own and a tasty choice for full-flavoured pasta dishes or barbecued meats.
