Black Duck Durif is full bodied and smooth with layers of spicy fruit and in the six vintages it’s been around it’s won 7 Trophies, 14 Golds (including Double and Top Golds), and scores of 95 & 96pts. It's made by Sam Trimboli, who we have known for over 30 years and who has collected hundreds of awards for his legendary skills. During that time he developed an obsession for the obscure Durif, a “stunning little powerhouse grape that develops astounding complexity”, as he describes it.
Sam has also loved ducks since he was a boy. His first pet was a little duck he led around on a leash like a puppy. He loves the symbolism of the duck: ducks are flexible (they swim, fly and walk), they’re loyal and love family (think mother ducks and their ducklings) and they’re very adaptable. The Durif grapes for this wine come from a small vineyard that Sam helped establish in the 1980s. Perfect with char-grilled steak or mature cheeses.
