Description Welcome to the 5th generation Angove family winery. Though it was Dr. William Angove who founded the company in 1886 in South Australia after emigrating from Cornwall in the UK, it was his son Thomas ‘Skipper Carlyon Angove who cemented Angove Family Winemakers as a significant player in the Australian wine scene with both fortified and table wines. They still make gin, and of course their famous St Agnes brandies today. The new generation, under Richard Angove, continue to pioneer modern styles of wine with a focus on sustainability. Having long since moved away from the weighty, golden, heavily oaked Chardonnays of last century, this beauty embraces bright stone fruit, shot through by lemony brilliance. No wonder the great Chardonnay grape is back in favour.
The South Australian wine industry is responsible for more than half the production of all Australian wine. South Australia is a vast area with a great diversity in geography, allowing the state to produce a wide range of grape varieties from cool-climate Riesling in the Clare Valley to big, full-bodied Shiraz of the Barossa Valley. Some of Australia's most famous wines like Penfolds Grange, Jacob's Creek, Yalumba and Henschke Hill of Grace are produced here.
